Introduction
Beedcom Interactive Limited ("Beedcom", "we", "us", or "our") operates the Nook mobile application (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use Nook.
By using the Service, you consent to the data practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the practices described here, please do not use the Service.
This Privacy Policy should be read alongside our Terms and Conditions of Service.
Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
When you create an account and use Nook, you may provide us with:
- Name and display name.
- Phone number (used for WhatsApp-based verification and communication during onboarding).
- Profile information including a short bio and any photos or avatars you choose to upload.
- Signal content — the text, emoji, and details of signals you post on the platform.
- Ratings and feedback you submit after meetups.
- Communications you send through the in-app chat feature.
- Payment information — processed through Paystack; we do not store card numbers or bank account details directly.
- Any other information you voluntarily provide when contacting us for support.
2.2 Information We Collect Automatically
When you use the Service, we automatically collect certain information including:
- Device information — device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information.
- Location data — with your permission, we collect your GPS location to determine which Spots are near you, enable auto check-in, and show you relevant signals. Location data is only collected when the app is in use and is not collected in the background without explicit consent.
- Usage data — how you interact with the Service, including signals viewed, signals posted, signals joined, and features used.
- Log data — IP address, access times, pages viewed, and other standard log information.
- Crash reports and diagnostic data to help us improve the Service.
2.3 Information from Third Parties
We may receive information about you from third parties including:
- Payment providers such as Paystack, who confirm the status of transactions.
- Other users, who may provide information about you in ratings, reports, or communications.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account and membership.
- Provide, operate, and improve the Service including signal posting, Spot detection, and real-time notifications.
- Process Nook Credits purchases and maintain your credit balance.
- Send you push notifications about signals near you, responses to your signals, and platform updates. You can manage notification preferences in the app settings.
- Display your profile information to other users in the context of signals and meetups.
- Build and maintain the platform's reputation system, including displaying ratings and meetup history.
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms and Conditions.
- Respond to your support requests and communications.
- Analyse usage patterns to improve features and user experience.
- Comply with legal obligations.
Location Data
Location is central to how Nook works. We use your location to:
- Determine whether you are within range of an active Spot.
- Show you signals that are geographically relevant to you.
- Enable the proximity-based nudge notification system.
- Seed new Spots based on where signals are posted from.
We collect location only when you have the Nook app open and active. We do not collect location data in the background. You may revoke location permissions through your device settings, but doing so will significantly limit your ability to use the Service.
Your precise location is not shared with other users. Other users see only that you are at or near a named Spot — not your exact GPS coordinates.
Nook is designed exclusively around public, named Spots — cafés, co-working spaces, libraries, campus hubs, and similar shared environments. This is a deliberate safety decision, not a technical limitation. Users are never directed to private or unverified locations. When you check into a Spot, you are confirming your presence at a known public place. This design ensures that real-world meetups arranged through Nook happen in environments that are open, populated, and familiar — never in private or unknown settings.
Airgap Chat and Pre-Meetup Communication
Before any real-world meetup takes place, Nook provides an in-app messaging feature that allows users to communicate directly without exchanging personal contact details. This feature — referred to as the airgap chat — is a deliberate safety layer built into the platform.
The airgap chat allows users to:
- Verify the nature of a signal before committing to a meetup.
- Assess whether a meeting feels appropriate and safe.
- Make an informed, considered decision before agreeing to meet in person.
Personal phone numbers, email addresses, and social media handles are never required to initiate or complete this communication. All pre-meetup messaging happens within the Nook platform. Users are strongly encouraged to use the airgap chat before agreeing to any in-person meetup.
Chat messages are retained for the duration of the conversation thread and may be deleted when the conversation closes, as described in Section 6. In cases of reported abuse or harassment, chat records may be reviewed by our trust and safety team.
How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share your information in the following circumstances:
5.1 With Other Users
Certain information is visible to other users as part of how the Service works:
- Your display name, profile photo or avatar, rating, and meetup count are visible on your signal posts and profile.
- The content of signals you post is visible to other users within the relevant Spot radius or within 1km in browse mode.
- Messages you send through the in-app chat are visible to the recipient.
- Ratings and vibe tags you leave for other users are associated with their profiles.
5.2 With Service Providers
We share information with trusted third-party service providers who help us operate the Service, including:
- Paystack — for processing payments.
- Cloud infrastructure providers — for hosting and data storage.
- Analytics providers — for understanding how the Service is used.
- Push notification providers — for delivering real-time alerts.
All service providers are contractually required to handle your data only as necessary to provide their services to us and in accordance with applicable law.
5.3 For Legal Reasons
We may disclose your information if we believe disclosure is necessary to comply with applicable law, regulation, or legal process; protect the rights, property, or safety of Beedcom, our users, or the public; or detect, investigate, or prevent fraud or security incidents.
5.4 Business Transfers
If Beedcom Interactive Limited is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change and the choices available to you.
Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Specific retention periods include:
- Account information — retained for the duration of your account and for a reasonable period after deletion to comply with legal obligations.
- Signal content — live signals are deleted from the active feed when they expire. A record may be retained for platform integrity and abuse prevention purposes.
- Chat messages — retained for the duration of the conversation thread and may be deleted when the conversation closes.
- Payment records — retained as required by Nigerian financial regulations and applicable tax law.
- Location data — not persistently stored. Used in real time to determine Spot proximity and is not retained in identifiable form after the session ends.
You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time. See Section 9 for your rights.
Data Security
We take the security of your personal information seriously and implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect it against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include:
- Encryption of data in transit using industry-standard TLS.
- Secure storage of data with access controls and authentication requirements.
- Regular security reviews and monitoring.
However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. You use the Service at your own risk.
In the event of a data breach that is likely to result in risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify you and the relevant authorities in accordance with applicable law.
Children's Privacy
Nook is strictly for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 18 without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. - Right to object — you may object to processing of your data for certain purposes including direct marketing.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details in Section 11. We will respond to your request within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the Service, or applicable law. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the application or by the contact details associated with your account.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
