Our Commitment
Beedcom Interactive Limited, the company behind Nook, is committed to maintaining a platform that is safe, legal, and free from any content or conduct that harms, exploits, or endangers children. We treat child safety as a non-negotiable platform requirement — not an afterthought.
Nook is designed exclusively for adults aged 18 and over. We take active measures to prevent underage access and to ensure that our platform cannot be used to facilitate harm to minors.
Age Requirement
Nook is strictly for users aged 18 and over. Users must confirm they are 18 or older during account creation. We do not knowingly permit anyone under 18 to use the Service.
If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will immediately suspend and delete their account and all associated data. If you believe a minor has accessed Nook, please report it immediately to support@nooksignal.com.
Prohibited Content and Conduct
The following are strictly prohibited on Nook and will result in immediate account termination and reporting to relevant authorities:
- Any child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — including images, video, text, or any other content that sexually exploits or depicts minors.
- Any content that sexualises, objectifies, or depicts minors in a sexual or romantic context.
- Any conduct intended to groom, manipulate, solicit, or gain inappropriate access to a minor.
- Any attempt to arrange or facilitate a meeting with a minor for inappropriate purposes.
- Any sharing of personal details of minors, or content designed to identify or locate a child.
- Any content that normalises, encourages, or facilitates child sexual abuse or exploitation.
Prevention by Design
Nook's platform architecture includes several deliberate design decisions that reduce risk to minors:
All meetups arranged through Nook take place at named, publicly accessible venues — cafés, co-working spaces, libraries, and campus hubs. Users are never directed to private or unverified locations. This design makes it structurally harder to arrange inappropriate private meetings.
Before any real-world meetup, users communicate through Nook's in-app airgap chat. No personal phone numbers or contact details are exchanged. This creates a documented, reviewable communication record prior to any in-person meeting.
Every member builds a public reputation through verified meetups and ratings. New or unverified accounts have limited visibility. This discourages anonymous or bad-faith actors from operating on the platform.
All signals expire automatically. There is no persistent public profile content or long-term browsable catalogue of users. This limits the ability of bad actors to build targeting lists of potential victims.
Detection and Moderation
Nook employs the following measures to detect and respond to prohibited content and conduct:
- User reporting tools available on all profiles, signals, and chat threads.
- Trust and safety review of reported content and accounts.
- Proactive monitoring for patterns of behaviour consistent with grooming or exploitation.
- Immediate suspension of accounts under investigation for child safety violations.
We are committed to implementing additional automated detection tools including hash-matching technology for known CSAM as the platform scales.
Reporting Child Safety Concerns
If you encounter any content or behaviour on Nook that you believe endangers a child or involves CSAM, please report it immediately:
Report in-app
Use the report function on any profile, signal, or chat message. Reports are reviewed by our trust and safety team on a priority basis.
Report by email
Email us at support@nooksignal.com with the subject line CHILD SAFETY — URGENT. Include as much detail as possible. We treat all child safety reports as highest priority.
Report to authorities
If you believe a child is in immediate danger, contact local law enforcement immediately. CSAM can also be reported to:
- Nigeria: Nigerian Police Force — npf.gov.ng
- International: Internet Watch Foundation — iwf.org.uk
- International: NCMEC CyberTipline — missingkids.org
Response and Enforcement
When a child safety violation is identified or reported, Beedcom will:
- Immediately suspend the account under investigation.
- Preserve all relevant evidence including chat records, signal content, and account data.
- Report confirmed CSAM to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline and relevant Nigerian authorities as required by law.
- Cooperate fully with law enforcement investigations.
- Permanently ban any account found to have violated our child safety standards.
There are no warnings or second chances for child safety violations. Confirmed violations result in immediate permanent ban and mandatory reporting.
Legal Compliance
Beedcom Interactive Limited complies with applicable Nigerian law regarding child protection and online safety, including obligations under the Child Rights Act and the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015.
We also align our practices with international standards including the NCMEC reporting requirements and the Internet Watch Foundation's guidelines for online platforms.
We are committed to updating our practices as laws, platform capabilities, and industry standards evolve.
